City, county join in defense of sturgeon lawsuit

In this long, drawn-out fish tale, the story's ending can make the difference between business as usual -- or a downtown inundated by the Kootenai River. That's why the city of Bonners Ferry and Boundary County have joined forces with the Kootenai Tribe to defend the current plan to save the endangered Kootenai River White Sturgeon. Both the city and county voted to spend up to $5,000 each to assist the Tribe in helping the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service defend a 2003 lawsuit that challenges the Service's biological opinion on saving the sturgeon. The votes were unanimous and were made by the county and city Monday and Tuesday, respectively. - Full Story
