Idaho Fish and Game wants lawmakers to buy in to wolf tag feesFriday, January 26, 2007; IDSTIf you're hoping to hunt a wolf in Idaho, it may cost you less than a lift ticket under a plan to sell wolf tags the Idaho Fish and Game Commission will put before the Legislature this session. Idaho hunters would pay $26.50 for a tag, but only when wolves are removed from the Endangered Species list. Commissioners unanimously approved the plan Thursday to seek authority from the Legislature to set fees for wolf tags. Nonresident hunters would pay up to $256. "When delisting happens, we want to be in position," F&G; commission chairman Cam Wheeler of Riri said Thursday after a special meeting in Boise. Commissioners also will seek authority to auction or raffle up to 10 special tags that could be used for special hunts. Wolf tags would cost the same as mountain lion and bear tags if a proposed fee increase is allowed for those species. Commissioners reduced mountain lion and bear tags to $11.50 in 2000 as part of an effort to increase bear and lion harvests in the Clearwater Region. - Full Story |
