Big Top arrives

Friday, June 8, 2007; BFH

Lions, Tigers and Bears...Ok, so bears are nothing new to North Idaho, but lions and tigers are definitely not seen on a regular basis in Boundary County. So grab the kids, friends and family and take this opportunity to see dare devil acts, and a variety of wild and dangerous animals under the Big Top at the Culpepper & Merriweather (C&M;) Circus on June 13 at the Boundary County Fairgrounds. As the event sponsors, the Bonners Ferry Rotary Club chose C&M; Circus because it is said to be one of America's favorite Big Top Circus's. With two shows planned at 5 p.m., and 7:30 p.m., there is no reason for anyone to miss this fun filled night. Although times may vary there are many things planned for circus day with the tent raising and free tour between 9:30 & 10 a.m., stop by the Fairgrounds and check out the transformation as the circus begins its setup for the evening performances. Take a walking tour of the circus and learn facts about the performers, the history of the C&M; Circus and the hygiene, grooming and veterinary care of all different animals in the circus. And then at 4 p.m. hit the Midway and enjoy the rides, moon bounce, concession stands and much more before the first performance. To top it off, the Bonners Ferry Rotary Club has also arranged for Skeeter, the C&M; Circus advance clown to hit town early and give kids of all ages a taste of what's to come in the days ahead. Watch for Skeeter everywhere because she might hang out in the local stores and shops or may even be spotted walking Main Street handing out the official 2007 Culpepper & Merriweather Circus Coloring Contest sheets. According to C&M; Circus promoters, Skeeter educates kids and adults about the life of a clown. She talks about the history of the circus and all the different types of clowns as well as sharing her own unique style of clowning and comedy. Skeeter began her career as a clown at the age of nine in Columbus, Ohio and is a graduate of the Ringling Clown College. As it moves into its 21st season, C&M; Circus is internationally renowned for quality family entertainment. This authentic One-Ring, Big Top Circus has been featured on National Geographic's Explorer TV series, Entertainment Tonight, the Los Angeles Times, the Chicago Tribune, and Arizona Highways Magazine. It has also been featured on the A&E; Special: Under the Big Top and most recently, On the Road with Circus Kids, a Nickelodeon special featured on the Nick News Program. Save money by purchasing tickets early from any Bonners Ferry Rotary member or at any of the following businesses: Boundary Tractor, Panhandle State Bank, Wells Fargo Bank, Lamars, Chic N Chop, Elmira Store, Naples General Store, Safeway, Boundary Trading Company or Moose Valley Farms. Advance ticket prices: $6 for children ages 2-12, $8 for adults with children under two free. Contact Bill at 267-2104. - Full Story
