Boundary County Museum is expanding

Monday, October 1, 2007; BFI

The Boundary County Museum will be open on Saturday October 6 for the downtown fall festival and then will be closed until May 1, 2008. Behind closed doors the volunteers of the historical society will be busy through the winter with a variety of exciting projects which will enhance the experiences of visitors to the museum.

Planning is nearly complete and construction on the new entrance and Rotary Park facing the Visitor’s Center will proceed as weather permits. The project will be completed by spring. The museum is also growing into the adjacent space recently vacated by Boundary Computer Solutions. With the increased space, it will be possible to create new exhibits including displaying the original bedroom furniture from the Hawkins House. A textile exhibit will feature a working rug loom donated by Loretta Kooken of three Mile Antiques. Anyone remember where the doorway was between the two buildings?

The Historical Society is looking into the possibility of reprinting the Boundary County History Book, Volume 1. The book was originally published in 1986 and is a history of the area and families. If you are interested in a copy, leave your name at LaMar’s.

The Historical Society is planning two fund raisers this fall. The Funky Fall Fundraiser will be held on Saturday October 27, in the store front between the museum and South Hill Furniture. This will be a combination indoor yard sale, bake sale, produce, silent auction, and raffle. Donations of new, lightly used, antiques, collectibles, and crafts will be accepted at the museum on Thursday mornings and all day on Friday October 26. The Historical Society will also have a table at the craft fair at the fair grounds November 30. Pick-up may be arranged by calling Gini Woodward 267-5638. Donations are tax deductible.

Are you interested in local history and perhaps volunteering some time for projects? Join the Boundary County Historical Society. The next meeting and pie social is Wednesday October 10 at 7:00 p.m. in the new south wing of the museum. Everyone is welcome. If you are interested in volunteering contact LaMar Olsen at 267-3314 or Gini Woodward at 267-5638. - Full Story
